 Genealogy is more popular now than ever before. With the advent of more affordable computers the internet has become the number one resource for people starting out on their own personal history adventure.
A vast number of family historians all over the world reach the point where their research leads them to relatives from the UK or associated Islands.
This is where FreeGEN can help!
So what's FreeGEN then?
FreeGEN is a community portal site, where people from all over the world, can come together and share information, get help and direction for their family history research in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, N. Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.)
The FreeGEN ethos
Our main reason for creating FreeGEN is that like so many others researching their UK family history we rely heavily on the internet. We felt it unfair for those websites who charge for information which is normally available free, to benefit financially from people who are unable to carry out their research through more traditional means.
So what will it cost me?
This site is completely FREE to everyone interested in UK genealogy and family history research and nowhere will you see advertising banners or be prompted for 'voluntary donations'. What we do hope is that we can develop a network of members carrying out lookups for one another from any resources they have access to.

FreeGEN is continually updated with new additions and modifications, but we need your suggestions for any improvements you think would help US to help YOU with your research. If you know of a good free site for helping with UK genealogy research please post it on our Link Exchange board.
